Light neck pressure for concise communication

Multi-, 3-ring and gag bit: all these models have one thing in common: the pressure created by the pull of the reins is first distributed via the tongue to the lower jaw and finally to the neck. In this way, they promise better control, for example, while you are mastering a course with your horse. This is because, when your horse withdraws with his head up, the action on the nape of the neck allows you to regain communication with your horse.

Useful tool

when your horse leans

Does Your horse lean down strongly on the hand or evade with the head down? Then a Gag bit could be the right choice. The way they work is complex: In a gag bit, the cheek piece is passed through the bit ring and attached directly to the rein. This creates pressure in the sensitive neck area of the horse when the reins are pulled. At the same time, however, the mouthpiece moves towards the angle of the mouth. This ensures that the horse presses down less. We advise the use of two pairs of reins, because this allows the rider to exert an effective but targeted influence - as much as necessary, as little as possible. For this reason, we recommend gag-style snaffles only for experienced riders with well-trained hand action.

A question of

flexibility

No matter whether sensitive or strong: mullen mouth bits are suitable for a variety of horses, depending on the design. The selection is huge and depending on the model, the mode of action can vary enormously. But wait a minute: So how do you know if a bar bit might be suitable for you and your horse? Basically, if your horse is difficult to turn or bend, this bit will not offer enough lateral support to communicate effectively & strongly enough. A mullen mouth bit is therefore particularly suitable if you have an even connection with both hands and are able to ride your horse through turns primarily with thigh and weight aids.

Softie or tough guy?

Generally, the softer the mullen mouth, the softer the action. If the mullen mouth bit is soft and flexible, it is recommended for more sensitive horses that may occasionally tense up and become bit shy. If it is rigid and hard, you can use it for strong horses that pull against the bit more often.
