Was genau ist eigentlich eine Hebelwirkung - und wie entsteht sie im Pferdemaul? Wählst du ein Gebiss mit Hebelwirkung, dann verteilt sich der Druck, der durch die Zügeleinwirkung entsteht, auf mehrere Wirkpunkte am Pferdekopf - zum Beispiel auf das Genick. Wenn du beispielsweise im Parcours die größtmögliche Kontrolle benötigst, kann diese Einwirkung sinnvoll sein, um auch dann in Kommunikation mit deinem Pferd zu bleiben, wenn es sich entziehen möchte. Aber Achtung: Reiter sollten immer darauf achten, niemals zu stark oder zu lange auf das Genick des Pferdes Einfluss zu nehmen. Darum empfehlen wir Gebisse mit Hebelwirkung nur für erfahrene Reiter mit kontrollierter Handeinwirkung.

Leverage effect

A sure instinct is required here! Because bits with leverage allow the rider to exert pressure on the horse's sensitive neck, we only recommend these models for experienced riders. You should have a balanced seat that is independent of the hand and be able to guide the reins sensitively. If your horse generally tends to have its head too low or withdraws downwards from the aids, bits with a leverage effect tend to be counterproductive. They are much more suitable for horses that withdraw from the rider's aids by lifting upwards strongly.

Light neck pressure for concise communication

Multi-ring, 3-ring and snaffle bridles: it's easy to lose track, isn't it? But all these models have one thing in common. The pressure created by the tightening of the reins is first distributed via the tongue to the lower jaw and finally to the poll. They therefore promise better control, for example when you are tackling a course with your horse. In particular, if your horse pulls away with its head upwards, the effect on the poll allows you to get back into communication with your horse.

Many riders appreciate 3-ring bits above all because they can be buckled in so many different ways. This allows you to individually determine the intensity of the leverage effect - after all, the solution has to suit you and your horse. As a rule of thumb: the longer the "leverage path" of the side piece and the deeper the reins are buckled, the stronger the pressure on your horse's neck. And: The greater the leverage, the slower the bit reacts to the accepting and yielding rider's hand.

Bei 3-Ring-Gebissen entfaltet sich der Druck, der auf das Genick des Pferdes wirkt, noch prägnanter als zum Beispiel bei Fillis- oder Multitrensen. Warum? Weil die Hebelwirkung durch die Länge des Seitenteils größer ist. Darum kannst du das 3-Ring-Gebiss im Idealfall auch mit zwei Zügelpaaren nutzen. Denn so nimmst du mit dem Hauptzügel im großen Ring nur Einfluss auf Zunge und Unterkiefer. Das zweite Zügelpaar, verschnallt im unteren Ring, kann je nach Bedarf über das Backenstück Druck auf das Genick ausüben. Die wichtige Voraussetzung dafür ist allerdings eine gefühlvolle Reiterhand. Darum empfehlen wir dieses Gebiss nicht, falls du noch unerfahren oder unausbalanciert bist.

A chin strap can help!

Would you like additional cover? No problem! An additional chin strap can help to limit the leverage effect of your 3-ring bit. The strap is simply buckled into the upper ring along the lower jaw. It has two functions: Firstly, it limits the neck pressure and secondly, it acts on the lower jaw. In this way, it can counteract your horse "diving" downwards and prevent it from withdrawing from your aids by holding its head too low.

The 3-ring bit is probably one of the most versatile models. This is because it can be used in a variety of ways thanks to the different rein buckling options. Because the mouthpiece can slide freely in the ring - just as it does with a water snaffle - the rider can control the poll pressure independently of the pressure on the tongue. This special feature has proven to be an advantage, especially with very impetuous horses that react sensitively to the constriction of the tongue. Whenever you have to apply more pressure by hand, does your horse bang its head or go against the reins even more? Then this bit could be what you are looking for.

Pliability

Whether sensitive or strong: bar bits are suitable for very different types of horses, depending on the model. The choice is huge and the way they work can vary enormously depending on the model. But wait a minute: how do you know whether a bar bit might be suitable for you and your horse? Basically, this type of bit is less suitable if your horse is difficult to turn, position and bend. This is because as soon as you have to use one-sided rein aids, the bit tilts. A bar bit is therefore particularly suitable if you have an even connection with both hands and are able to ride your horse through turns primarily with thigh and weight aids.

Softie or tough guy?

In general, the softer the bar, the softer the action. If the bar bit is yielding and flexible, it is also recommended for more sensitive horses that occasionally tense up and become impermeable. If it is rigid and hard, you can use it for strong horses that pull against the bit more often.
