when it counts

Do you need to correct past mistakes or apply more force in certain situations? The bits in the MAX Control series offer a very special solution. This is a double jointed bit. However, if a certain angle is reached - for example because the horse pulls against the reins and lifts out - it locks and becomes a bar. This allows you to exert more influence at this moment. However, if you ride with a loose connection and gentle action, the mouthpiece is comparable to a normal double jointed bit. Clever, isn't it?

Lateral support and quiet position in the mouth

Olive head, D-ring and shank snaffles are the "framers" among the bits. The fixed rings literally frame the horse's mouth. This makes it even easier for you to ride turns, for example, as the boundary on the outside rein is supported. Similar to a water snaffle, these models only exert pressure in the horse's mouth when there is tension on the reins. The fixed side pieces are directly connected to the mouthpiece. Your rein aids are therefore transmitted more directly than with a water snaffle, where a small part of the aids are cushioned by the loose rings. Due to the soft transitions between the rings and mouthpiece, the bit lies particularly quietly in the horse's mouth. The ideal choice if your horse has very sensitive mouth angles.

Perfect framework conditions

but with which model?

Spoilt for choice: Which bit is the right choice? Olive head, D-ring or shank snaffle? Basically, the larger the contact surface between the side part and the corner of the horse's mouth, the greater the lateral limitation. So compare the side elements of the bits with each other and decide how strong you want the lateral limitation to be. If you want it to be rather mild, we recommend an olive head or D snaffle. If you want a clearly framing effect, you can go for a shank snaffle.

Quiet zone

for mouth-active horses

Because they frame the horse's mouth laterally and thus provide a limiting effect, the olive head, D-ring and shank snaffles are the ideal choice if your horse is difficult to turn. But these models can also be just the right solution for horses that have a very restless or overactive mouth and tend to play with the bit due to their calm position in the horse's mouth.

One size smaller

Perfect fit

In order for bits with fixed side pieces such as olive head, D-ring and shank snaffles to develop their framing effect optimally, the side piece should lie close to the corner of the mouth. This also allows the bit to lie quietly in the horse's mouth. Due to their special fit, these bits should therefore always be selected one size smaller than classic water snaffles with continuous rings.
